Put Vision First

Happy World Sight Day!

Today serves as a great reminder of why it's important to #putvisionfirst and get your eyes checked. Regular eye exams are essential biennially, if not annually. The frequency of eye examinations will depend on what your optometrist advises. Regular check-ups can help protect your vision by providing insight into overall eye health as well as, in some cases, detection of diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes and multiple sclerosis. Diseases like glaucoma can lead to blindness if left untreated, but with an early diagnosis this can be treated through the use of eye drops or laser or surgical treatments.

Besides regular check-ups, today presents a time to reflect on how you protect your eyes day-to-day. Take a minute to think about proper safety eyewear for DIY jobs at home and heavier duty jobs at work –  accidents happen and it's important to make sure you're prepared. Prescription safety glasses are a good option to look into for keeping your vision as clear as with your regular glasses, but protected at all times.

The last point we'd like to make this World Sight Day is that no matter what job you're doing – whether that's on the job at work or weekend warrior jobs at home –  it's important to protect yourself from UV rays as well as any immediate physical hazards. Wear sunglasses to shield your eyes from damaging UV light rays. UV protection for your eyes is the same as for your skin –  even on overcast days you still need the protection.

Look after yourself (and your eyesight!) this World Sight Day.
